A collection of 10 songs...new, old, blue and borrowed...a Spring Bouquet, dropped and trampled by the clumsy ring-boy...we gather them up again in tears, glaring at the drunken uncle who had tripped him in the aisle...the broken glance of despair...the fragile grip of the weary hopeful.
We steer a different course on this recording, foregoing the technical security of 24 tracks and fix-it-in-the-mix. Instead, we invoke the Shroud of Memphis and set up at home. Steve plugs some good mics into a quiet board and runs directly into stereo DAT...no edits, no overdubs, no digital cut-and-paste. These are whole, live performances...what we play is what you get.
Special thanks, as always, to my musical partners: Dennis, David, Chris, and Stephen, for their beautiful, intelligent music, and for their courageous climb into these difficult songs; to the late John Duffy, for teaching me to play the mandolin and to love Bluegrass; to team Italia: Tonino, Umberto, Franco and Tommy, for keeping the faith in the art all of these years; to team trust, especially Marie, for taking care of the other hat while I worked on this recording; to Sandra Smith and Doug Porteous, for introducing me to Lowery's inscape; to Brenda, for kind and unflagging support, both personal and professional; to Dr. Steve, the Eye Guy, for the fine home page; to John and Paula, for the generous loan of their home; to our friends on Thetis, who inspired and informed many of these songs; and most of all, to...
